NISSIE FALLS
THE BEGINNING
Nisee falls is the name I gave our backyard project two summers ago named after my Girlfreind, who I am still with. A few months after we lost our home by fire, we ended up renting part of a house and of couse with he ugly and small backyard, I was sitting one day in the back looking around and thought, Hey! I have some left over material from a film gig I did, why not do something differnt for a change, besides making another scarry monster suit, you know, something I can make for US! well for my girlfreind acually so we can both sit outside in the summer and relax for once.

So the first thing I did was go back inside, sit in front of my PC and did some reserch first on ponds, then more reading on small fountains, anything realted too what I saw in the corner of the fence in my head.

As you can see in the first picture, there really is not much to work with, so we began by digging as far down as possible around the outside of the paved concrete around the fence. which ended up only being just over a foot. So I decided to build up a small wall on the edge of the hole we dug, so when we added the soil for the plants, it would then be at least 2 feet deep.

While I was researching this stuff a week prior to this stage, I was tring to figure out a cheap way to get some fake grass in the back, but that was way out of my budget..so I came across some Flagestone pages, but this too was out of my budget, but liked the look of it better then the grass idea, so once again I improvised, and decided to use regular ol Acyrlic paint, the same stuff you get at the dollar store, which to my surpise held up quite well throughout the rain, summer and even past winter is was only abit faded come spring, so just touched it up again, since i already had the pattern what I first tried to make a stencil but ended up just doing it freehand with a paintbrush and a cup of paint.
I ended up going back and forth painting the ground as I was also building fake rocks for the little waterfall in the corner, I used a few differnt recycled items such as 5 gal. water jugs, plastic containers wrapped with newspaper or cloth and soft foam, same as you get from a couch. I would coat most the foam with Smooth-on resins and Rigid foams
Now with the Corner falls built, whats left to do? make it look purdy! (yes I know I spelled it wrong) So we went with using real plants and fake plants, and the only real reason for this is because real plants take to long to grow! , Aint Noboddy got time for dat!

Actually it was abit late in tthe season, but worked out great anyway, since I also did a bit of weathering, burning and cutting the fake plants to make them look more real, and people who stop by barley even notice.
conclusion
The last but not least thing I did, was I painted a mural on the fence, was a mix of airbrush and hand painting based from some photos of Vancover B.C mountains, a place Ive always wanted to visit, but have yet to see first hand. This year I am doing a Hawaii theme, which is currently a hobby I do inbetween working on my regular daily job of making costumes, props and other things. I will update this once I have something to show.

This is why I call it the backyard RETREAT, since I work from home, this is my only escape, and in someway, a vacation away from the daily grind, yet still doing what I love, being creative, and doing something for someone I really love. maybe one day we both can visit these places for real, untill then, stay creative!
